I saw a post on Instagram the other day with a person giving God thanks about their good hair day, only for it to be followed by a negative response to the tune of something like, "Why do you think you're so important that God actually cares about your hair? You're such a Narcissist!"
In other words, "What is man that You are mindful of him?" Psalms 8:4 already begs this question! Why would He care enough about us this way?
How my heart was sadden by the ignorance of man yet rejoiced for the knowledge of God. The individual was unbothered by this statement and without skipping a beat, responded matter of factly, "And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. Luke 12:7" Not a moment of peace was disturbed and with the numerous amount of "likes" that came flooding in on that one response alone, I'm convinced that was a pivotal moment for the commentator and others whom were not aware of Gods intricate care for us individuallly. When you read His Word regularly and store it in your heart, and just as our Instagram friend showed, no one can rob you of your God given peace.
Let's face it, it's easy for us to trust God and drink tea in the quiet times, but when the proverbial "storms of life" begin to rage around us, we then seem to lose the peace within us. The beauty is, as followers of Christ, we innately know whom to call on, just as the disciples did. Unfortunately, we also mimic the indignant attitude of the disciples as well. "Lord, how is it that you are sleeping with all of the chaos going on around me?" "Don't you even care about me?" Although in our peaceful times we absolutely are well aware that He fully cares. Not to mention, if we knew of others dealing with turmoil around them we even know enough to encourage them by reminding them that "Jesus cares for you". But when we are shaken and allow what we see to unnerve us, we find ourselves questioning God. Swiftly for some, gradually for others, filling our hearts with "bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior." This is what is described in Ephesians 4:40-31 as what grieves the Holy Spirit.
It is in these moments where God reminds us that he is faithful and will never leave us. (Eph 13:5) Fortunately, God is well aware of our hearts posture at all times and teaches us, for example, by the way we handle things, or the tone of which we reverence Him, that our faith is ever growin
So, what if we could make it our personal challenge to grow by reminding ourselves that if we could just believe God for just this situation, then it's just another block of faith that is building up a solid foundation for the life that God has planned for us. And then, approach the next circumstance with that same mentality. Pursuing God with the same tenacity! Just as if we weren't going through a single thing... then repeat. I wont lie, this takes practice and surrender, indeed. But it also takes us from one level of faith to a greater level of increasing faith. From one level of glory to the next level of glory. We would then have that peace that we can't explain.
We all know that one person that always seems to have that glow or that peaceful disposition on them or in their home. Never seemingly effected by their circumstances...or rather, never seemingly having any circumstances at all! But what if I told you that it's not them, per say, but it's the "peace of God that surpasses all understanding" that rests on their countenance. But the best part is, this is attainable for you too! Although you may not have it in your physical view, your faith is all God desires from you. You know...that mustard seed sized faith you've read about? Yeah, that faith. If you haven't already, Google an image of a mustard seed. It might surprise you how little God asks of us. Then as you begin to see yourself grow, you will look back at past storms and say, "How did I ever let that interrupt my peace, when all the while I could've have been trusting God and drinking my tea.
