I just love God’s sense of humor lol. Unbeknownst to me I didn't know upon receiving the invite to share on TGDT that I was going to have PLENTY of opportunities to literally Trust God and Drink Tea in the month of May.
To give a brief snapshot of this past month. I've had to overcome new and pre-existing health challenges, where some days it's a physical, mental, and emotional fight that leaves me extremely exhausted. While also dealing with being miles away from my parents, and receiving news that one of them was experiencing health issues that may have required a life-changing surgery.
Then having to mourn the unsuspected loss of a formal spiritual mentee and friend.
All while trying to remain a functioning adult, employee, sister, daughter, creative, and friend has been challenging lately.
There were times when I shut down from the anxiety and worrying about all the “what if’s”. I attached myself to the anchor of anxiety and wore the wardrobe of worry. And WheeeeeWWwww! It was heavy! I simply lost sight of who I served above because of what I was seeing in front of me. So I made a choice. Instead of worrying, I chose to read and meditate on the promises of God. And pray. Lots and lots of prayer!
One of my favorite scriptures that has helped me overcome is Pslams 46:10.
“ Surrender your anxiety. Be still and realize that I am God. I am God above all the nations, and I am exalted throughout the whole earth.”-Psalms 46:10 TPT
words that stand out to me in this passage are “surrender” and “be still”. Both actions require the willingness to trust. The willingness to hand over possession of whatever is hindering.
The word trust can be defined by the following :
A firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something
The acceptance of the truth of a statement without evidence or investigation
The assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.
If you're like me, sometimes trusting in the unknown can be a huge challenge, especially when it pertains to the future and loved ones. But, I was reminded that the only way that I was going to overcome some of my weakest moments was with God. Fully trusting in who he is and what he can do with the unimaginable versus trying to process things on my strength, talents, emotions, or understanding.
God allows us to be challenged by the pressures of life to see if we are going to go to Him. He wants to hear and help us in those times when the load seems unbearable. Making the choice to be yoked to him and not our problems.
Another one of my favorite scriptures is in Matthew 11:28-30
"Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis. Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, and easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me. For all that I require of you will be pleasant and easy to bear.”
-Matthew 11:28-30 TPT
I love this scripture because it uses the illustration of a yoke, which is a plowing tool to place on two large animals so that they may work together to get the task at hand done.
This requires two things; the animals must trust in their master to even allow such a tool to be placed on them. And the weaker animal must trust in the stronger animal that they won’t lead them astray or bring harm while striving towards accomplishing the goal of the master.
I’m glad to share that God has delivered on his promises once I surrendered to fully trust him. I received good news regarding the state of my parent's health that no longer requires surgery! Regarding my health, I'm doing much better! And I'm able to mourn one day and step at a time.
If you've been consumed with worry. I want you to try this one practical.
Step 1 - Write down all the things that you worry about.
Step 2- Ask yourself, has my worry or my efforts of resolution as a result of worrying changed my circumstance for the good?
Be honest with yourself. Hopefully, you answered no.
Step 3- Try it God’s way! In Matthew 6:34 it reads:
“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”
-Matthew 6:34 MSG
